The 4 Elements of Intuitive Logic for the Empathically Inclined
Welcome to the Land of Logical Intuition, where High Sensitivity goes hand-in-glove with our definition of Self, which translates into thought, into belief, and life as we know it. In this post, we’re drilling down to the four elements of the crux of the matter:
- Thought
- Emotion
- Sensation
- Expression
“Frankly, I don’t know much of anything. But there is one thing I’m certain about, and it’s this: having a feeling about something is not stupid. In fact, I think it’s the closest we get to divine intervention. I think we’re born with an innate ability to feel, and from childhood we’re trained not to listen, because it’s ‘illogical’. But I’ll tell you right now all the most important decisions I’ve made in my life have been based on illogical feelings that I just couldn’t ignore. (Halfway To You¸ Jennifer Gold, 2023)
I read the words quote above as written by Jennifer Gold in her new novel at about 1 AM this morning. I’d been just about to turn out the light when I swiped my Kindle page and there it was: Another message of validation that others are thinking, feeling, and expressing what I have been thinking, feeling, and expressing for so long.
And, while it’s absolutely true that our state of being, which includes our emotional, mental, and physical tendencies, contributes to what we might call our sensitivity quotient, a different approach invites us to embark on a new direction by turning the whole enchilada upside-down.
How do I know that my “intuition” is not steering me to the wrong place?
What do Gold’s words communicate to me? That it’s out there in the world in the collective consciousness! That the realization that we are so much more than what our mind tells us we are. That we process on so many more levels than our brain can process all by itself. YAY!!!!!
Let’s start with the first element: Thought
If we can wrap our minds around the idea that the mind and brain are two different things, we’re already one step ahead. Because it is the brain that does the functioning—creates the synapses, fires the cell connections, etc. (Can you tell I’m not a scientist?) Still, while the brain is going along doing all its functioning along all the pathways it needs to function, it’s still doing what it’s doing on a physical level.
Are you “of two minds?” The mind, as compared to the brain, relies on the brain to function, but other than that there is no connection! Our mind is constantly taking in information based on the brain’s capability to do that, but then it’s the mind that takes over to process, to create and form opinions, values, beliefs, and so on.
According to HealthyBrain.org, we process about 70,000 thoughts per day. That’s alotta thinking! Yet it’s what we do with each thought we have that makes the difference.
The second element: Emotion
As you know, when you think a thought, there is always a equal feeling that goes along with it. What’s important to note is that, at this point, we are speaking about emotional feeling, not sensational (somatic) feeling. For example, I think the thought that I wish I didn’t have to meet with the person I’m meeting in an hour and immediately my emotional state interprets that thought to say, “Oh, bummer, I feel yucky about this.”
The third element: Sensation
When the Logical Intuitive part of us kicks in rather than the mind part that translates into emotion part, that’s when we get to all the good stuff. The sensation that happens in the body. The sensation(s) that reveal our truest response to the thought or experience going on in and around us.
It’s when we get stuck in the sensation—is our heart pounding or are we having anxiety, breathing hard?—we tend to shut down. Which really is a shame because that’s where the message from our brilliant Intuitively Logical self lies.
If we can only hold onto that feeling long enough to stop resisting it … to explore the nature of the energetic indicator showing us what’s really going on, we can start tapping into what our innate logical self is telling us.
The fourth element: Expression
It is not the logical self we have always been told is the one that matters. Not the logical self we have trained ourselves into believing. Not the logical self we have trained our mind to accept…
But the logical self that is the key to our very existence—the one that brings the fourth element of our Intuitive Logic to the forefront—the Expression of our authentic nature.

[…] As HSPs, we take it personally. And the only way to change the channel on our own self-imposed prison of not enough, less than, and if only I could be is to change our definition of logic. […]
[…] I have to offer is different because my take on Intuitive, Empathic Logic is unlike anyone […]
